Clerk of Courts Links With Schools

Dwight E. Brock, Clerk of the Circuit Court of Collier County, is creating new ways to educate teachers and students in the School District about the Clerk's Office.

"All too often, we overlook the importance of reaching out and informing the youth of our community about matters relating county government, including the Clerk's Office" stated Dwight.  "Although most Clerk's services are geared toward adults, young people can benefit by becoming better informed about local and state government so they are able to make informed decisions about their duties as responsible citizens."

The Clerk has launched a student education initiative to inform young people about the Clerk's role and responsibilities and how to access information and services via CollierClerk.com, the Clerk's official website.  Social Studies teachers in Collier County have been invited to attend a presentation on their staff development day to review the three lesson curriculum designed to supplement their social studies, pre-law and/or government classes.  The curriculum also serves as a teaching tool for substitute teachers who are looking for an interactive and informative lesson using the internet.

In designing the Clerk's curriculum, the Clerk's staff met with representatives of the District's Social Studies Advisory Group to discuss the program, highlighting the following learning objectives:

     1)  to gain an increased understanding of the role and responsibilities of the Clerk
     2)  to learn ways to access various programs and services of the Clerk's Office by using
          CollierClerk.com
     3)  to advocate for the Clerk's Office by informing and teaching others.
